Margery Gill Memorial Scholarship
Miss Margery Gill, teacher, colleague, and friend to all at John C. Vanderburg ES was born in Madison, Wisconsin on October 30, 1942. Miss Gill received her Bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater in 1964 and her Master of Arts degree in education as a reading specialist at Northern Arizona University in 1977. She taught for 44 years, beginning in Greendale, Wisconsin and Denver, Colorado before finding her home in Nevada. She was a respected and beloved teacher for the Clark County School District for 41 years, teaching at Rowe, Harris, and McDoniel Elementary Schools; lastly, at Vanderburg Elementary School from 1996-2008.
Miss Gill received many awards and accolades because of her excellence in education, and was named a Distinguished Elementary School Educator in the Clark County School District. She was also listed in Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America, Who’s Who Biographical Record of Child Development Professionals, and Outstanding Leaders in Elementary and Secondary Education. Miss Gill will be remembered by thousands of students, scores of parents, and many colleagues and friends for being a dedicated educator who had a great sense of humor. She loved playing silly pranks, sharing her awesome chocolate chip cookies, and cheering for her Green Bay Packers and University of Wisconsin Badgers.
Miss Gill would be pleased to know that her legacy lives on through students who will benefit from a scholarship in her name.
