North Las Vegas Firefighters, Brent Cooper Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to honor the life of Brent Cooper.

Brent Cooper was born December 14, 1957 in the state of Illinois. Brent was a 1975 graduate of Western High School in Las Vegas. He went to Mankato State University in Minnesota on a wrestling scholarship from 1975-77 were he studied Criminal Justice. Cooper served his country in the Army and was stationed in Oxford Germany from 1977-81 where he was a sergeant in the Military Police. Brent moved back to Las Vegas and became a Metro Police Officer from 1982-1985. He joined the North Las Vegas Fire Department on March 3, 1986, and rose through the ranks to become Battalion Chief.

Brent’s hobbies had him traveling all over the country playing softball, and competing in the Firefighters Combat Challenge where he broke the all-time-over-40 record with a time of 1 minute 38 seconds.

Brent Cooper was a loving father and his legacy has now been passed on to his two daughters, Candice and Britney. Brent died in his Las Vegas home after he was diagnosed with cancer. He bravely fought this disease until his untimely death on August 13, 2000. On April 2, 2002, the City of North Las Vegas and its Fire Department dedicated Station 52 as the Brent Cooper Memorial in his honor. Chief Cooper continues to be missed by the brothers and sisters of the North Las Vegas Fire Department.
