Sheila Tarr-Smith Memorial Scholarships
Sheila Tarr-Smith was a true role model to the children of Clark County. As a product of the Clark County School District, Sheila attended Tom Williams Elementary, Garside Junior High and Bonanza High School. She attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on an athletic scholarship for women’s track and field. In 1984, she became Nevada’s first National Collegiate Athletic Association Champion and was selected as an alternate to the United States Olympic Team in the heptathlon. Sheila later fulfilled a lifelong dream to become a firefighter and joined the Clark County Fire Department. Sheila dedicated an enormous amount of her time to helping the community and educating children. She always stressed the importance of a good education, fitness, and the desire to follow your dreams.
