A Seat at Our Table Scholarship

College-bound CCSD Nevada seniors planning to attend a Nevada college may apply for this scholarship. Preference will be given to those students with financial need. One scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,000.

Verification of college enrollment (class schedule) will be required during the summer before a check is mailed to the college. Scholarship funds must be applied toward tuition, fees and other appropriate educational expenses. These funds will be disbursed in equal payments over two semesters.

  1. Do you plan to attend college in Nevada?
  2. Essay - 500 words - Often Black women are not acknowledged or recognized for their work, efforts, and leadership in socio-political settings among others. Write about a local or national Black woman who contributed to a social/political movement, but their work is not highly discussed nor credited. Briefly explain who they are, what they have done, and why they inspire you. Cite any sources you use (sources are not included in word count). Tip: Make sure your essay doesn't read like a biography. Focus the heart of the essay back on you - why this woman inspires you, how they are meaningful to you, how their actions, work, leadership, etc. resonate with your past, current and future self, for example.
